Waste contamination major problem in Oklahoma
Contamination is a major problem in Tulsa with an average of 21% or more of tossed materials contaminating the recycling stream. People want to participate, but are less invested than they could be say officials.
The City and the Tulsa Authority for Recovery of Energy (TARE) board have launched a new recycling education program - "Focus on the Four" - to simplify recycling for Tulsa residents.
Recycling rates rising dramatically
Since the City launched its new recycling program in 2012, the number of Tulsans recycling and the tonnage of recyclables being processed have risen dramatically.
It's good that more Tulsans are recycling, but the City has also seen an increase in items being put into the blue recycling carts that CANNOT be recycled through the City. This leads to a high "contamination rate" at the City's recycling processing center - and that costs the City and resident's money.
Bramidan is currently soliciting equipment providers throughout Oklahoma to help improve the record on the environment. With cardboard selling for so little, it is making things more difficult, but we hope to find channel partners in the near future.
