Our Balers Help Los Angeles Recycle & Compact Waste

The City of LA and the Sanitation District recently launched “recycLA,”a new waste and recycling program that will provide recycling services to over 80,000 multi-families and business accounts in the LA area. The program aims to increase recycling in the City to divert 90 percent of waste going to landfills by 2025.

In addition, more businesses than ever are turning to Bramidan balers and compactors for efficient compaction and recycling.

Los Angeles is a diverse, and famous city. But downtown L.A is only a small part of the greater area known as Los Angeles. For instance, Hollywood is associated with L.A. as is Beverly Hills, Pasadena and its Rose Parade and many other cities that comprise the Los Angeles basin. The sunshine and the ocean breeze make it a destination city for people all over the world.

But as hip as L.A is, did you know it is also home to one of the largest collection of dinosaurs? The La Brea Tar Pits caught many pre-historic animals in its bubbling pools of tar. The site is still active today and bones are still extracted. It has one of the largest collections of Dire wolves in the world.

And you cannot mention L.A. without addressing Hollywood. Do you know why Hollywood started out west? Two reasons – to escape Edison’s patent and to film a new genre of film called “Westerns” where weather allowed for outdoor filming as well as in huge studios built to showcase the universe of new stars being created.

The Zero Waste Progress Report 2013 conducted by the UCLA Engineering Extension’s Municipal Solid Waste Management Program reported that the City of Los Angeles has achieved a recycling rate of 76.4%. An additional survey conducted by the UCLA Engineering Extension reported that the City of Los Angeles has the highest recycling rate out of the 10 largest U.S. cities.

With the implementation of recycLA, LA will divert 1.1 million tons of waste from landfills annually, eliminating more than two million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. That is the equivalent of taking 440,308 cars off the road annually.
