Maybe it is the long cold winter or perhaps the indominable spirit of the Midwest that drives Columbus. As a recycling town, Columbus recently reached the halfway point. The city turns to Bramidan’s recycling equipment to help them manage waste and recycle.

Columbus Recycles Half of Their Waste

50% of the city waste in Columbus is being recycled. That is well above the national average. Even still an examination of the waste stream in 2019 determined that 76% of the waste that made it to the landfill could still be recycled. The top two items were cardboard and food.

With a good baler program, of that 76%, an additional several hundred tons of material could be recaptured by the municipality and by commercial enterprises who could participate in recycling. Apartments and commercial waste generators are amongst the least Organized and least participatory. While the city makes strides to improve its separation at the curb, continued efforts are needed in business sector as well as for multiple unit dwellings.
